The charming Portrush is a holiday destination for many people, boosting the Famous Barry's amusements. Near the Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle and Bushmills Distillery to name a few places of interest. The seaside town of Portrush is the ideal venue for an event of this nature as there is plenty of accommodation, so why not spend the weekend in the North of Ireland while taking in the point-to-point racing.

Patrick Turley and Sean Doyle have been responsible for the last two winners of this race, and they could both saddle newcomers once again. Turley has entered Mourne Crystal, and his runners here have to be respected, given that he saddled the recent Champion Bumper hero The Mourne Rambler to make his debut around here in October. Of those with previous form, CLUAIN MEALA sets the standard for Colin Bowe after his runners-up effort in Knockanohill, whilst Stay For One finished third at Lingstown on debut, which is form that is always worth noting.

AN CAPALL BAN is a grey that made his debut at Borris House at the beginning of this month, having cost E82,000 at the store sales. It was an opening effort that offered plenty of promise, and having been sent off as a well-backed favourite on that occasion, his supporters could collect in this. Fellow Wexford challenger, Common Sense is the obvious danger. He chased home a subsequent sale topper at Ballyvodock in January, and the form of that race has been working out well since. Werweiss and Lyrical Park are likely next best.

Few handlers have a strike rate as notable as Ian McCarthy this season, with the Kildare-based handler sending out 11 winners from 15 runners. Princess Aveen is one of the few from his stable not to get their head in front, but she did hit the crossbar on debut at Tyrella, and can step forward from that in this. However, preference goes to Boombox, who filled the same position at Nenagh in what was effectively also her debut, having exited at the first in Turtulla. Her Glenmalure Flyer has long been knocking on the door, and once again has place claims.

The great WINGED LEADER created history around here in October when setting a new modern record for the number of point-to-point races won, and he has since added to that with further victories at Kirkistown and Farmacaffley to bring his pointing total to 36 wins. Having won on each of his last six starts here, he would be a popular victor. Hearts And Spades is a potential new rival for the reigning champion. He has won all six starts since joining Ian McCarthy and claimed a notable scalp on his first start in open company at Lisronagh last time, whilst his stablemate Fountain House won at the Punchestown Festival last season and comes into this seeking a hat-trick.

It is hard to look beyond JETAWAY SHELDON for this. The six-year-old has finished placed in both of his starts since joining Sam Curling, who last weekend matched his best ever tally of winners with his 34th victory of the current campaign, and this Jet Away gelding should add to it here in what would look to be his easiest assignment to date. Ballykelly ran his best race yet when he finished second in this race last year, and if he could bounce back to that form, he would have place claims, alongside the returning Chateau Elan.

FORTUNE LAD was an early casualty at Farmacaffley last month, but he is taken to gain compensation in this. Largy Leader also comes into this having come a cropper last time. He came down four-out just last Saturday in Kirkistown in a race that he was sent off as the favourite, whilst Weespoof will bid to leave two non-completions around here behind him.
