Track Biography:

Ballindenisk point-to-point has a long history of holding point-to-points, dating back over a hundred years. The original point-to-point races were held over a banks course in the 1890’s.

The course is situated on the farm of Robert Fell and is also used for eventing as well as having hosted European and World Championships. Set in a rural area near Watergrasshill the course is made up of volunteer racing enthusiasts which includes former jockey/trainer and Clerk of the course John O’Callaghan.

Over the years Ballindenisk has produced many top class horses that have gone on to sell for large amounts of money in the UK sales. These include Conna Castle, Native Jack, Artic Copper and Awbeg Prince.

By Road

On the N8 approximately 20km north of Cork, Ballendenisk will be sign posted from Watergrasshill, Blarney, Cork city and Midleton.

Facilities

Our venue offers spectators brilliant viewing facilities, whereby all parts of the track can be seen. The horses race right up to the crowd, jump one fence and before turning back out into the country side. The finish line is situated in front of the crowd also – so you can cheer the horses!

We have unlimited parking spaces and plenty shelter should a light shower intervene during the day. With warm drinks along with hot and cold food on offer, the races are a great day out for all – friends, family, club members - catch up over the Christmas period and have some fun in the fresh air.
 

Food

If all that fresh air gets your tummy rumbling or you need a hot drink to warm up we have a great variety to keep your energy levels up!

This year to raise funds for two local teenagers heading to Calcutta all proceeds made from purchases of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soup and a variety of sandwiches will go to raising much needed funds.

Hot food caterers are also available on the day where you can purchase tasty burgers, sausages and chips.

If you haven’t had enough of sweets over the Xmas period you can get your ‘fix’ at our onsite shop!
 

Beverages

This year, you will be able to warm-up with a fresh cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate whilst also contributing to the fundraising efforts of the day in support of two local teenagers who will be travelling to Calcutta.

Our on-site hot food caterers will also have a range of soft drinks which can be purchased to accompany your tasty food treats.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE FOR POINT-TO-POINTS?

There is no dress code but it is advised to wear warm clothing and old shoes/wellies as it is December after all!

Dogs are more than welcome, once kept on a lead.

People are invited to have a picnic or bring their own food.

All kids race for free and the local kids school colouring competition will be displayed on the day. Face painting will take place in the social tent with donations made to a local charity/fundraiser.

There is not an ATM on-course.

Dress up your family ‘pooch’ for our ‘Santa Paws’ competition for the best dressed Xmas dog.

MACRA members are invited to ‘spin’ along to the event and bring their tractors!

Following consecutive runners-up efforts, it would be no surprise to see CAOIMHE LADY going one place better here. The Denis Murphy-trained mare ran what looked a particularly smart effort at Loughanmore last time and would look the one to beat. Infinity Tower took a notable step forward at Borris House in November, whilst Shes So Lovely is proven in testing conditions following her Moig South effort which stand to her here.

BIG SHANGHAI travelled particularly well on his racing debut at Mainstown at the beginning of December and having run a fine race to finish second beaten just over a length, he sets the benchmark here. Stable companion Casey West is well related, and he looked like he would play a big role in the outcome on his debut at Moig South only to slip up on the home bend. Crucially he seemed to handle testing conditions on that occasions. Of the others, Camp Belan inherited third at the last in Dromahane recently and can step up from that initial effort.

CLONMEEN has form around here to his name which he may be able take advantage of, as although he did benefit from a final-fence faller at the end of November, he still finished a fine second behind a more experienced and proven rival. Blackstair Rocco took a big step forward when second at Stradbally in a big field maiden, with Dr Shirocco a very experienced campaigner now who is knocking on the door. Aheadofthefield or Aces Full can also not be ruled out, but both must put disappointing efforts behind them.

LITE DUTIES and Solomn Grundy are both horses that have been tested at the highest level in the Hunter Chase division, and both finished fifth at Fairyhouse and Down Royal respectively. The pair will be more competitive in this company where they would look to set the benchmark. Killultagh Vic showed that he does retain some of his old ability with a pleasing comeback at Mainstown and carries the colours that were successful in the Paddy Power Chase last Sunday, whilst Old Castletown can be expected to improve following his first run for some time at Stradbally.

Having switched yards following her debut, Lady Dabbler went very close on her first outing for the Andrew Latta yard at Kinsale and she would look the one to beat in this. Rose Of Coolbally offered a great deal of promise at Dromahane just before Christmas and is the obvious alternative, with Slideaway and Honest To Goodness other contenders.

There are plenty of potential dangers however, as there would not seem to be a great deal separating the likes of Dower Caves and Ranger Kid, whilst John Adams is a notable returnee having shown promise as a four-year-old prior to a lengthy absence.
